Inflation driving grocery behaviour



Kantar reports food price inflation at +5.2%, the highest since April 2012. Also highlighted is the transformation in UK grocery shopping habits:


‘The real story of COVID-19 has been the acceleration of online shopping, and retailers have built their digital capacity to match a seismic change in demand. 12.6% of sales were made online in March 2022 compared with just 8.0% three years ago.’


Online grocery in the UK is generally fulfilled from a nationwide network of omnichannel supermarkets, physical stores acting as last mile logistics hubs, such as those in the SUPR portfolio.
